Project management program
Microsoft Project Professional is a project management software developed and published by Microsoft. It is designed to assist project managers in creating schedules, distributing resources to tasks, managing budgets, analyzing workloads, and evaluating project progress. This 2016 version of Microsoft Project Professional is the latest version that supports Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 and is also compatible with Windows 19. This version is also the first in the Project Professional series to offer multiple Timeline views, Manager views, Resource connections and Capacitive thermal maps.
Program layout
Microsoft Project Professional consists of three key parts: the workspace, the ribbon, and the backstage. The work area takes up the largest part of the screen because it contains all the data necessary for your project. In Microsoft Project, a project must contain a number of tasks and resources. The workspace collects its information to help you view it from many different perspectives, such as a sheet, graph, Gantt chart, or a combination of the three.
Once you've filled in the information, you can use the ribbon to organize it thematically. The ribbon is the control center of the program, as it contains a series of commands further divided into groups. All commands are organized into appropriate tabs. To activate a bookmark, click on the name of the bookmark and a group of commands will appear. You can then click on a button, tool, or gallery option to use a specific command. In addition to the work area and ribbon is the Backstage area.
This is a separate page from the work area as it facilitates the process of saving, sharing, printing and encrypting your file. You can access the Backstage page by clicking the File tab on the ribbon. This will redirect you to the page and display its commands on the screen. Its commands are arranged as a list on the left. By default, the Print option will be selected, so you'll see a preview of your work as a printout and other print-related options on the right-hand side.
Using the project workspace
While the workspace contains only two tables of data, tasks and resources, it is a key part of the program. This section presents different aspects or combined views of your data. For example, it can present the resources allocated to a specific task. You will be able to view similar statistics in the View tab. A tab located in the ribbon area provides access to 27 types of program groupings. These will appear in a pop-up window under Additional Views.
An important tool for project management
While both Project Professional and Excel include spreadsheets, project management software has been optimized to break down project scope into a work breakdown structure. The WBS will be a key part of the project scope summary, while the Gantt chart summarizes the project schedule or timeline. Compared to Excel, Microsoft Project Professional provides these outputs with more detailed and accurate information
