Open Source project management tool
ProjectLibre is a free and open source project management tool. It was developed as an open-source alternative to Microsoft Project. It has many similarities with MS Project and ProjectLibre offers full support for file compatibility with the program.
Availability
ProjectLibre has cross-platform availability. It can be run on Linux, MacOS and MS Windows operating systems. However, because ProjectLibre is written in Java, users may be required to install the latest version of the program before ProjectLibre can run properly.
Interface
ProjectLibre has a similar interface to MS Office. Both programs feature a ribbon-style interface. Below the ribbon, users will find two windows: a task list window and a Gnatt diagram. Using a Gnatt diagram, users will be able to view tasks as a bar graph. This gives them an easy visualization of how many jobs are currently running and how much time they will take to complete.
Other functions
ProjectLibre also provides users with different task views for more visualization options. In addition to the Gnatt diagram above, users can view tasks as network flowcharts and a work breakdown structure, or WBS. There is also a Task Usage view where task hours are broken down even further.
ProjectLibre can also organize projects by resource, as projects can be viewed using a Resource Breakdown Structure (RBS).
Free and Powerful
Despite being a free project management tool, ProjectLibre has enough features to make it a useful tool for any manager. However, ProjectLibre is definitely not a tool for beginners. However, once the user gets the hang of it, they can make project organization a breeze.
